St. Romain:

This vineyard in the small appellation of Saint-Romain is located on a very steep rocky hillside.  The grapes benefit from the steep south-facing slope.  The grapes from this vineyard have big bright fruit notes due to the optimal ripening of this location.   Barrel fermented in one-year-old barrels and “sur-lies” aged for 10 months produce a good balance of the fruit and flintiness.  This wine is a great example of the richness and intensity of Burgundian chardonnay.

This 100% pinot noir is grown at the well-known single vineyard site called Maison Dieu located just outside Pommard.  In fact, in the 1950s when the main road was built this vineyard was declassified from the appellation of Pommard to the Bourgogne appellation.  The wine is heavier, and more concentrated with more depth than a typical Burgundian classified pinot noir--more similar to a Pommard in style.  It is aged for 15 months in 30% new oak.  This wine is still quite young and will continue to improve for 5-7 years.
